The MERICON™ family of technologies processes spent caustics to control odor, reduce biological oxygen demand (BOD), chemical oxygen demand (COD), adjust pH, and destroy phenolics and other hydrocarbons with an on-site solution.

Merichem’s MERICON technology product line was first licensed in 1988. To date, Merichem has granted 30 operating licenses worldwide.

MERICON II is a proprietary technology that produces a neutral brine effluent stream for routing to waste-water treating facilities, evaporation ponds, or waterways.

Merichem’s MERICON II process enhances oxygen availability and thus performance at lower operating temperatures and pressures. This reduces capital and operating costs signicantly compared to other systems. So while the MERICON II typical operating conditions range between 200C - 260C and 35 - 75kg/cm2 (low-medium severity), its performance can match that of units running at higher severity.


What is Wet Air Oxidation?

Wet air oxidation (WAO) is a liquid phase process that oxidizes hazardous compounds contained in organic and inorganic wastewater streams with air or oxygen under elevated temperatures and pressures. The hazardous materials are converted to carbon dioxide, water, carboxylic acids, and non-hazardous compounds.

Wet air oxidation successfully treats numerous wastewater streams from renery, petrochemical, pulp and paper, automotive, pharmaceutical, chemical, brewing and distilling manufacturing plants. The process has also been used for several decades to treat bio-solids generated from municipal wastewater treatment plants.
