Merichem Company is pleased to announce the launch of the Ride Tight® Fluid Sealing Management Program for its railcar fleet as an added improvement to its existing environmental stewardship procedures. In partnership with VSP Technologies and Carolina Seal, Inc., Merichem’s application of the Ride Tight program brings further management and control of railcar fluid sealing products. Prior to joining the program, Merichem worked with VSP Technologies and Carolina Seal who developed a series of gaskets and O-rings specifically designed to work with Merichem’s products and railcars. Merichem also developed the necessary guidelines to ensure proper Ride-Tight fluid sealing practices for its entire fleet at terminals and customer sites. Merichem has retrofitted nearly 30% of its railcar fleet and plans to complete the process as part of its normal maintenance activities. Kathy Young, Vice President and General Manager of Merichem Caustics Services said “Merichem’s support and implementation of the Ride-Tight program is another example of our ongoing commitment to continuous improvement in safety and our support of Responsible Care® for our customers, employees and stakeholders.”
Together VSP Technologies and Carolina Seal have initiated the Ride-Tight program. The program is an all-encompassing tank car, ISO tank, and tank truck leak management program. Companies participating in the program have the advantage of utilizing gaskets and O-rings that are custom-designed for their specific products and applications. VSP Technologies is the largest dedicated fluid sealing products distributor in the United States. They specifically focus on achieving maximum reliability at the lowest cost. They have a broad range of engineering and technical backgrounds which allow them to handle any fluid sealing need or requirement. Carolina Seal, also having niche expertise in the sealing industry, specializes in chemical compatibility analysis, optimal material selection and root cause failure analysis reporting. An appealing aspect of this program is what Carolina Seal refers to as their "MVP" service, (Material Verification Protection). With their in-house Quality Assurance Lab, they utilize a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) Spectrometer to verify the "pedigree" of their incoming materials to ensure absolute consistency and repeatability of the components they supply. FTIR is a technique used to obtain an infrared spectrum of absorption, emission, photoconductivity or Raman scattering of a solid, liquid or gas.
Merichem Company announced that it has received a project award for a LO-CAT® unit to remove hydrogen sulfide from the gas produced by a waste gasification facility at an undisclosed location in Europe. The LO-CAT process employs an environmentally safe, patented design and proprietary catalytic process to convert the gaseous hydrogen sulfide into a solid elemental sulfur. This latest award brings the total number of licensed LO-CAT units to over 225 worldwide within the Exploration & Production, Refining & Petrochemical, Water & Waste Water, Power Generation, and Metals & Mining industries. LO-CAT is a registered trademark of Merichem Company.
